University of Miami College of Law Wins 1st Place at the 2024 E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition

On November 16 and 17, the Florida Justice Association Research and Education Foundation held its annual Honorable E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition at the Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This year was our biggest event yet, with 20 teams competing and more than 80 students participating. More than 80 attorneys and paralegals served as scoring jurors. FJA attorney members and local judges presided over the courtrooms. FJA members Jamie Holland, Holland Law, and Foundation Board Member Monica Besbris Smyth, Todd E. Copeland & Associates, P.A., co-chaired this year’s event.

Students participated from law schools around the state and country including: Florida State University, University of Florida, William and Mary University, University of Miami, Florida International University, Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, Stetson University, and St. Thomas University.

Congratulations to the University of Miami mock trial team who successfully represented the plaintiff in the final round — securing a 3-2 verdict.
