Overview

As the United States celebrates its 250th Anniversary, the Florida Justice Association proudly recognizes the Seventh Amendment and the constitutional right to trial by jury.

Ratified in 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights, the Seventh Amendment ensures that citizens have a voice in the civil justice system. For more than two centuries, it has served as a vital safeguard of fairness, accountability, and access to justice.

As we commemorate 250 years of American independence, we also celebrate the enduring principles that protect our rights and liberties. The Florida Justice Association remains committed to defending the Seventh Amendment and preserving access to justice for future generations.

About Us

The Florida Justice Association stands for accountability, equal justice under the law, and the constitutional right to trial by jury.

We believe ordinary people deserve a fair shot when they are harmed by powerful interests. In America, justice should not depend on how much money you have, who you know, or how many lawyers a corporation can hire. When an insurance company wrongfully denies a claim, a corporation cuts corners, or a powerful institution refuses to take responsibility, Floridians should have the right to stand up and be heard.

The Seventh Amendment protects that right. It preserves the ability of everyday citizens to hold wrongdoers accountable in a court of law, even when facing corporations or special interests with greater wealth and political influence. It also protects the principle that the value of a person’s life, injuries, and losses should be determined by a jury of fellow citizens, not dictated by insurance companies, corporate lobbyists, or arbitrary limits written into law. It is one of the strongest safeguards against unchecked corporate and governmental power.

The rule of law means the same rules apply to everyone. No corporation, insurance company, or special interest should be above accountability when their actions cause harm to working families and consumers.

Without access to independent courts and the right to trial by jury, many rights exist only on paper. The Florida Justice Association works to protect those rights, preserve accountability, and ensure that Florida’s civil justice system remains open and fair for every Floridian.

What is the Seventh Amendment?

The Seventh Amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees the right to a trial by jury in civil cases. Ratified in 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights, it ensures that ordinary citizens can resolve disputes in a court of law before a jury of their peers. By placing decisions in the hands of citizens rather than government officials or powerful interests alone, the Seventh Amendment promotes fairness, accountability, and public confidence in the civil justice system.
