Smiley-Square-New.pngThe Florida Senate on Thursday honored Professor W. McKinley “Mickey” Smiley, Jr’s life and outstanding contributions to legal education. A resolution (SR 1790) by Sen. Gary Farmer, former Florida Justice Association president, declares Sept. 17, 2017 as Mickey Smiley Day at the Capitol.

“Mickey Smiley was a friend. He was a mentor. He gave so much to so many people, Sen Farmer said, noting Professor Smiley’s groundbreaking work at Stetson University. “He lived his life under the motto, ‘If you want to be truly happy then devote yourself to the realization of someone else’s dreams.’”

Mickey Smiley was a dear friend of the Florida Justice Association and stood tall as a strong supporter of Florida’s civil justice system and legal education. We all miss Mickey and were honored to have him spread joy as an esteemed guest and speaker at many of FJA’s seminars and annual conventions.
